Taking ideas from the last post, there is another idea that formed for me.
God, who creates universes with an utterance, who owns everything and if that isn’t enough can create more, and Jesus His son, who feeds 5000 with a few loaves and a word of thanks, had a key problem. How could He show that we were truly worth something to Him; how could He make His love cost something? David understood this, that the showing of love involves costliness:
“And Ornan said to David, “Take it for yourself; and let my lord the king do what is good in his sight. See, I will give the oxen for burnt offerings and the threshing sledges for wood and the wheat for the grain offering; I will give it all.” But King David said to Ornan, “No, but I will surely buy it for the full price; for I will not take what is yours for the LORD, or offer a burnt offering which costs me nothing.” So David gave Ornan 600 shekels of gold by weight for the site.” 1 Chronicles 21:23-25, NASB.
God created a way to make His love cost Him something. Perhaps He made up suffering so He could suffer, so He could wear the scars. We suffer now, for a moment, so that we can understand the worth of the scars we see that He bears; but we ultimately do not bear the suffering that He did. We have momentary light affliction now; He bears the scars unto eternity. But He has been resurrected, and scars are wounds that have healed.
