Hello, My Name is Almighty God!

6 For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. 7 There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, On […]

Wonderful Counselor

So you need to face something. You hate His counsel. His name is scary weird counsellor. You have come seeking confirmation for your own counsel, and He didn’t do that. On top of that, you can’t stand the counsel He does give. You are supposed to think it is wonderful, but you don’t. And you aren’t even allowed to say so, because no one is allowed to disagree with Jesus.

Unto Us a Child is Born!

6 For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. 7 There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, On […]

The Cross as an Anti-Idol

The discussion came up the other day in our fellowship as to whether the cross was an idol. Should we wear crosses, put crosses in our churches, etc.? I began to reflect on this, as it has never bothered me that way. It is a very strange practice, similar to wearing a little electric chair […]

God the forgetful will not forget you!

18 “Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the LORD, “Though your sins are as scarlet, They will be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They will be like wool. – Isaiah 1:18 NASB 25 “I, even I, am the one who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake, […]

Digging for Gold – Gospel Astonishment

I haven’t posted in a while. I’ve been doing a lot of stuff though – preaching and pastoring a church, working a “bivocational” full-time job, finishing up a new book, and just taking some time to do some reading and thinking off-line. So, I’m sorry to have been so absent here! Blessings to everyone who […]

Hearing from God

“Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the LORD, “Though your sins are as scarlet, They will be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They will be like wool. Isaiah 1:18 One of the questions that arises when reading this verse is that while it sounds like it might be […]

Here am I. Send Me!

4 And the foundations of the thresholds trembled at the voice of him who called out, while the temple was filling with smoke. 5 Then I said, “Woe is me, for I am ruined! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I live among a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have […]

Woe is Me!

“Woe is me, for I am ruined! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I live among a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.” 6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a burning coal in his hand, which he had taken […]

You’re Not a Good Person

In numerous conversations recently, the idea has come up that we are each essentially a good person. Numerous people in our fellowship have expressed surprise that I teach against this idea that we are fundamentally good, and instead press the seemingly ugly idea that we are fundamentally sinful. Why is the assertion that we are […]
