breaking waters

boys at the nooksack river

me and the boys at the nooksack river

I wept
when I first walked the river path
          the rush of emerald waters
                    broke against the rock
                              of my numb discontent
          her water broke
                    like a cannon
                              when our son was born
I wept
                    when he emerged wide-eyed
                              calm
                              full of wonder
          when I first heard Bach
                    I fell on the ground
                              kicked my feet
I wept
          at the touch
          of all this useless beauty
                    I would die without it
