impossible

a hint of spring sweetness
graces the cold air
the river has changed since
last I went this way

standing on long legs
sensuous neck held aloft
impossible ungainly
a great blue heron
lunges into flight
glides effortless over the water

  1. I really did see a great blue heron on my walk along the river tonight. It was stunning, what a huge and majestic bird. You can’t believe it is real, nor that it could fly. It glides so beautifully along the surface of the river. What a beautiful quiet moment.
